After a bus ride this morning that had beautiful views of farmland, windmills and lakes, we arrived in Ypres, Belgium
Students explored the charming town that is known for its rich history of the First World War before entering the Flanders Field Museum.
After dinner, three Carter students had the opportunity to participate in the Last Post Ceremony, which has been held every night in Ypres since 1928. The students presented a wreath at the Menin Gate Memorial.
The Last Post was a bugle call to mark the end of the day’s work and to signal the night’s rest. The daily ceremony in Ypres now represents a final farewell to the fallen, according to the Last Post Association.
